Hand-Drawn Art for People Who Love Meaningful Places
My name is Scott Norman and I'm a Michigan-based artist and creator of Stoney Bend Prints --- where every piece begins as a hand-drawn sketch and is created with care, intention, and a love for meaningful places. My work is inspired by childhood memories of Shel Silverstein and Ansel Adams as well as everyday moments, familiar Michigan landscapes, and locations that hold significance -- places that feel like home.
About the Work
Stoney Bend Prints is rooted in slowing down, paying attention to details, and honoring the meaningful places that matter most. Each illustration is drawn entirely by hand, with careful attention to architecture, light, and setting --- the way a place holds a memory. The work is intentionally rendered in black and white with a focus on character and atmosphere, while combining the specific details that make up a place.
Why Place Matters
Homes, landmarks, and familiar settings carry meaning beyond their physical form. They hold memory, history, and connection. Often, these stories are tied to family, milestones, or a sense of belonging. Much of my work is inspired by locations that feel quietly significant: Great Lakes lighthouse, shoreline towns, cottages, historic structures, travel memories, and places that have stood the test of time or may be lost to time. Michigan is my home and the Michigan Collection continues to grow as a tribute to character of the Great Lakes region.
The Approach
My work is drawn by hand using traditional tools and techniques --- never with AI or automation. The process is deliberate and unhurried intentionally, with an emphasis on composition, proportion, and values. Limited-edition prints are produced in small quantities and signed by me, while original works and select commissions are created one at a time.
A Personal Note
Stoney Bend Prints began as a way to use drawing and sketching to capture the stories behind places in our lives. It's gradually grown into a collection of art centered on places that matter. My work continues to be shaped by stories with a respect for craftsmanship, patience, and the belief that meaningful art doesn't need to be loud to last.
