Along the Lake Michigan shoreline, the barns of Port Oneida remain as quiet reminders of an earlier Northern Michigan landscape. Built to serve working farms near the water, these simple structures have endured through changing seasons, generations, and ways of life.

The Long Memory is an original watercolor inspired by one of those historic barns. Created as part of the Port Oneida Collection, the piece uses restrained line work and soft layered washes to suggest rather than describe. The focus is less on architectural detail and more on the feeling of a place that has remained rooted in the land.

The barn sits quietly within the composition, surrounded by softened forms and open space. My goal with this piece was to capture the rural heritage, and the enduring character of Port Oneida.
