Old-Mission Peninsula -- A Michigan Place Shaped by History
Old Mission Peninsula stretches north from Traverse City undulating between East Bay and West Bay, dividing Grand Traverse Bay into two long shorelines. One of Northern Michigan's oldest settled areas, it was first established in 1839 when Presbyterian missionary Peter Dougherty built a mission near the tip of the peninsula. Originally named "Grand Traverse" the community became known as Old Mission after the mission moved in 1852.

Old Mission Peninsula carries a quiet history shaped by farming, missionary roots and generations of families who lived close to the land and water. Today it's known for vineyards, wineries, cherry orchards, and stunning bay views.

It's true character is found in the small details -- weathered barns, church steeples, shoreline roads and the lighthouse standing at the northern tip. Old Mission feels steady and enduring -- a place people return to year after year.

It remains one of the most iconic places in Northern Michigan
